Specialist Veterinary Services
Specialist ambulatory veterinary services for racehorses and performance horses, combining advanced sports medicine expertise with evidence-based and individualised care.
Helping Horses Perform, Recover & Return to Work
Performance is influenced by many factors, and identifying the cause of reduced performance, injury, or delayed recovery is rarely straightforward.
Equine Sports Medicine Analytics provides specialist ambulatory veterinary care focused on equine sports medicine, rehabilitation, and performance investigation.
Our approach combines clinical expertise, advanced diagnostics, and an understanding of equine athletic performance to support horses at every stage — from investigation and diagnosis through to rehabilitation, monitoring, and return to work.
We work closely with trainers, riders, owners, and referring veterinary surgeons to develop practical, individualised management plans designed around the needs of both horse and training programme.
Here’s what we can help with
Poor Performance Investigation
Reduced or inconsistent performance can arise from a range of locomotor, respiratory, cardiovascular, or training-related factors. We provide systematic and evidence-based investigation to help identify contributing causes and guide management.
Sports Medicine Consultation & Performance Review
Specialist assessment of horses in training and competition, with a focus on performance optimisation, injury prevention, and supporting long-term athletic health.
Performance reviews may incorporate fitness testing, lactate analysis, heart rate monitoring, and objective gait analysis to provide a more complete understanding of training response, athletic capacity, and recovery.
Rehabilitation & Return to Work
Individualised rehabilitation and monitored return-to-work programmes following injury, surgery, or periods of reduced training, designed to support safe progression and sustainable athletic performance.
Respiratory & Cardiac Assessment
Specialist evaluation of respiratory and cardiac function as part of performance assessment and investigation, including respiratory examination, endoscopy, auscultation, resting and exercising ECG analysis, and echocardiography (heart ultrasound) where indicated.
Locomotor Assessment, Ultrasound & Objective Gait Analysis
Advanced locomotor and lameness assessment supported by wearable technology, objective gait analysis (including SLEIP), and expert interpretation.
As one of only two certified members of the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP) in Australia, Dr Laura Fitzharris provides detailed musculoskeletal ultrasound assessment and interpretation as part of sports medicine and rehabilitation case management.
Ultrasound is a valuable tool in the diagnosis and monitoring of tendon, ligament, and musculoskeletal injury and in guiding rehabilitation and return-to-work decisions.
Second Opinions, Remote Consultation & Veterinary Collaboration
Working collaboratively with primary care and referring veterinary surgeons to provide specialist input, advanced assessment, and support with complex sports medicine and rehabilitation cases.
Remote consultation and case discussion may also be available for selected cases, allowing access to specialist advice and interpretation beyond the Sydney region.
